Personal Story:

Almaty, Kazakhstan has always been on my Central Asia bucket list, and I’m thrilled to finally tick it off! My adventure in this beautiful city was nothing short of unforgettable — from exploring the stunning Almaty Lake to witnessing the surreal beauty of Kaindy Lake. This lake, formed after a massive landslide, is famous for the eerie tree trunks that rise from beneath its turquoise waters, often earning it the nickname “the sunken forest.” Getting there wasn’t easy, but every bump along the way was absolutely worth it.

Of course, no trip is complete without diving into the local cuisine. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and tried horse meat — a staple in Kazakh culture! The food in Almaty is flavorful and hearty, and the locals’ warmth made the experience even more special. As an Asian traveler, I felt a comforting sense of familiarity and belonging, like I was right at home.
